I feel for everyone who is affected. What frustrates me the most is the non-transparency of the management. What was the criteria used when deciding which employees will be laid off?
Some say that the main target were those who have not been here for a long time.

Similar to the comment above, there did seem to be a focus on firing the "easy" people, as most of my team mates in European countries or other locations with stricter labor laws were spared. In my experience, the legal team at Appian does not seem particularly adept in their understanding of law outside of the United States.
The ask by leadership is to the managers by group that they need to cut X% of people. Managers identify the people that want to be cut and mark them as low performers. If you have been long in Appian, and friends with a lot of people you are safer than someone that have been less than 4 years (the complete pie) which require more paperwork.
