Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

Isn't it risky to wait for severance pay?

I am not writing this to motivate someone to leave - everyone has their own reasons why they are still here and how long they intend to stay. However, I am in a dilemma whether it is worth waiting for the layoff and severance pay or to accept a fairly solid offer now. I might be wrong, but I'm afraid that in the coming period it will be increasingly difficult to get a new job. On the other hand, I wouldn't want to miss the package either and therefore my dilemma.

I was a part of the last layoffs 3/31 and in two weeks have multiple offers. People are hiring, you don't have to wait on Avaya to lay you off, you are valued in the industry.....Waiting each day checking if Avaya is laying off additional people or selling product lines is not healthy for you or your family. Companies are hiring!!!!

Multi decade employees are being let go with 4 and 6 week severance. There is no mini golden parachute coming to anyone. Don’t stick around if you are thinking X many weeks times X many years of service will bring you $$$. Those days are long gone now.

Don't wait, if you are union in the US, contract expires in June, no severance, if you have a solid offer, run,run run, I left without getting my severance when I found a new job. best decision I ever made.

Be sure to check the December 13 filing attached powerpoint. Slide 14 says the $250m in cost-cutting will double to total $508m in 3Q23 before ending in 1Q24 at $534m. US layoffs may have paused, but they're far from over. Tkae the job and run.

The "cut jobs immediately to show cost savings" layoffs are over in the US. However, keep in mind that Alan has her to "build his team". He has just survived with who remains.
They will continue to cut to make room for idea hires. Hires who bring talent and don't just take a seat. He should announce new marketing head soon. That should inspire a house cleaning in the sad sad marketing department, for example.
Next layoffs will be talent focused.

Work both jobs for now and be smart, Avaya senior management are id--ts and won't even know you're double jobbing if they catch you well it's not the end of the world.. be smart and think of yourself for a change..

Alan said the bulk of the layoffs in the US are over so you may pass on something for a package that isn’t going to be there for you. Take the sure thing and the offer

Exactly. Packages are not worth the wait in US. Congratulations on your new offer!

If you are a US-based employee, the severance package is likely to be small. Take the solid offer.

If you are an employee in a country that has strong worker protection laws, such as Germany, wait for the package.
