“Controlling labor costs via periodic layoffs is like breathing for Silicon Valley: cyclical, necessary for life,” Malcolm Harris, author of the forthcoming book “Palo Alto: A History of California, Capitalism and the World,” told me. The layoffs, Harris says, have “very little to do with long- or even medium-term strategy except as it pertains to cultivating an insecure workforce.”

@1qqw+1kXUhlXC bingo. though ironically, young entrepreneurs are already taking advantage of the market vulnerabilities caused by esg and dei initiatives. the shifts in tech and media are already happening and they're only going to get more intense from here given the amount of davos blood in the water.

Covid, DC Policies and the elite wrecked our economy. This is the inevitable result. It isn't economically viable to ki-l small businesses, make energy expensive and pay people to stay home.

Its all about keeping wages in line. That is a direct hit to profits. They can write off all the severance and it doe not get accounted for in profits
