Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

AVP status here is bloated

AVP status here is bloated and needs a thorough review by upper management during their "expense study". Mine serves no purpose other than being a high priced babysitter we don't need, adds no value, takes up a seat (salary) and by being here, prevents anyone qualified from ever being promoted. It's deplorable that employees need to be subjected to such garbage management here.

An on point post from @2snc+1lz5QAl3.

Stop trying. Doesn’t matter. MetLife is beyond repair. It’s broken on every level, hiding and ignoring the skeletons is their definition of raising the bar. It is the most toxic abusive culture.

"Nope, instead we have zero to poor planning making for sloppy execution. Time after time…. With everything…."

The best part is being penalized in your PDP for trying to improve the planning process within senior leadership. Happened to me this year. What was so radical? Wanting to map out the dependencies for a project slated to go for the next 3 years so that we don't duplicate efforts down the road.

But on the bright side that PDP conversation was the motivation I needed to look for a job out of here.

My experience too. Director takes all my ideas and gives no credit.

So, I don’t give ideas anymore and stopped passing on things that need to be fixed or that are wrong.

That’s how that works.

I had a really bad director too. Didn’t start out that way. I think over time became overcome by all of the politics, became disengaged, lazy and then completely checked out. I was doing ALL of the work. They were honestly doing nothing… I am not exaggerating either. It was ridiculous.

And also a lot of bad experiences with management - Director and AVP taking credit for my ideas. repeating them to others including to ME like it was their idea the very next day if not the very next meeting. I called this out when it happened. no acknowledging or correcting putting credit where deserved. That is when I decided I was done…absolutely no integrity in management. Demotivating and infuriating.

@1yxc+1lDpxKVp Me too. My Director manager is absolutely biased person and doesn’t honor my hardwork. Has demotivated me many times. At a point I was depressed and couldn’t concentrate on work at all for 2-3 days as was badly hurt by the politics.

With all of the bloat you would at least expect better if not impeccable planning.

Nope, instead we have zero to poor planning making for sloppy execution. Time after time…. With everything….

My AVP is the exact opposite. Busted a-s to get into the role and is a great people manager. But you watch - will be stunted from any further growth. Just the way this place is….good managers/AVP who speak up and ask questions, pushing status quo’s, are held back.

In general, I want to absolutely vomit over the over bloated AVP in IT….all have the same “not my problem” attitude “that’s not us - talk to this team” responses. Yet cry for more budget and then continue to sc--w LOB’s who are never the priority but FUND $$$. This company stinks. I’m leaving and won’t look back. Having a good AVP is still not enough. This place is so broken. Do yourselves a favor and walk! Better opportunities & more $$$ out there.

My favorites are the AVPs that aren't managing anyone (or doing any work).

I worked at Pacific Life for 10 years and can confirm they also had way to many AVP(s) just in our Division alone.

There were a few that contributed a lot to the organization but most were just “the hottest chick on the team” and a vanity promotion for whichever middle age white man that hired them or fast track promoted them.

In some cases we had AVP(s) with only 2 people in their organization.

The rest of the AVPs were just really close cohorts of the senior executives

My AVP is a joke. Not smart, not a strategic thinker, adds no value, doesn't know how to manage and grow her people.
