Thread regarding Nielsen layoffs

Merit?

Did anyone else hear something about no merit this year? If this is true what is the point of performance reviews?

In the end, sure, you lose as an employee and a professional who wants to make money and advance in your career but think about how badly all this Nielsen cost cutting nonsense screws clients!

I was let go a few years ago. Client facing/sales. After almost 2 decades at the company, I had a client/contract list a mile long. I'm talking at least 50+ clients and maybe close to 80 contracts. The company had been cutting costs for SOOOO LOONNGGG at that point, I didn't even have a support staff to work with clients/new customers to onboard or even do basic training or data pulls. I literally would sign up a client, do the training myself and then also help them with data pulls and analytics. By then I had so many revolving door mid level managers come thru, they had no idea how many clients I had or what services they were contracted for. Seriously. It got to the point where I no longer bothered updating "management" on client issues/needs. My only conversations were about "are there any new contracts or clients coming soon?" Lol. On the day I was "let go," via phone thankfully, the hack temp manager at the time asked me to send a list of clients and contacts by EOD. I was lucky if I had sent half of them. At that point, I had so many I didn't even know who half of them were! That's how bad it was for me in those days, guys.

as a manager i can tell you performance reviews meant nothing for this past year. i never even got a performance review.

i filled out detailed reviews for my people end of last year and it meant nothing in the long run. Reviews usually affect bonus amount, bonus eligibility, merit increase, & ability to be promoted or transfer to another dept. This year we did get our bonus thankfully but that is it, and the bonus was a flat amount that had nothing to do with your review or point ranking system. My review form was empty. So were several others in my department.

Everyone, do the bare minimum amount of work while you are here and use the majority of your time enjoying life and applying to new jobs.

re: "He's going to sell Nielsen in 2 years, it's back to public stock market"

This be the plan!! Remove as many Workers [costs] as possible and make Nielsen take on massive debt to pay distributions to Singer then Singer sells what remains back to retail investors.

The c-suite will get massive bonuses to execute this; employees get 0 or less!!

"Are we doing mindless work that will have no positive impact on the company and our jobs?"

Yes.

My job is stupid and unimportant. But I work for 2 hours a day and then enjoy my life. We all should do the same. Make Paul Singers profits as small as possible. Because let's face it. He's going to sell Nielsen in 2 years, it's back to public stock market, somebody else will acquire it. Same sh-t, different investor.

More layoffs, added daily tasks and assignments, no merit.

I need some honest answers here.

Is it worth working long days and picking up new assignments?

Our direct leadership present an opportunity for growth.

What is the purpose of the work we do each day?

I’m an optimist who believes that hard work equals success.

Are we doing mindless work that will have no positive impact on the company and our jobs?

Where/when was this announcement?
Does this include everyone or just employees at certain levels? Sad if true.

As someone who work’s extremely hard to meet or exceed all goals set by management I can tell you this is the nail in the coffin moment for me.

Just another example of Nielsen not rewarding hard work and extra effort put forth by its employees…..

We all should just quiet quit and let them deal with it. Of course everybody should also plan exit strategy.

I guess DK didn’t feel energized to deliver the “no merit increase” news. He is the CEO of this company and leaves it to the women of Nielsen to deliver the news. Speechless. There is also real stuff going down around here that people want to know about and he needs to address it.

Just announced by JM: merit postponed, no travel allowed, and no promotions. Strategic how DK was not in this all hands. Probably thinking that an all female hosts would make it a softer blow. (It’s not)

Even though you were rated Exceeds Expectations - NO Merit Increases. That's just insane.

I haven't heard that. I heard they don't have details to share about merit yet and should get more information in Q2.

performance review and feedback are crucial for giving feedback and motivating people, regardless of the increase. This is true in any place and in Nielsen today as well. Not to mention that the bottom part is clearly at risk ...

I Have Not Heard About It. Merit Is Used to Identify and Fire Low Performers too.
