Did anyone else receive work equipment , i.e laptop , etc just to be then told you are laid off and have to return it? How does that make any sense?

There is some tax write-off or capital write-down that makes this good business practice. Dell or HP kikbak, whatever.
Suspect that if you never actually return the equipment, it won't be noticed.
It's a log number. a money tattoo.
but also probably a truly sock-a-trash laptop.
Work equipment / hardware is handled by US bank hardware team and they don't have any idea about business decisions or who is going to get lay off , all they do is distribute the hardware to all union bank colleagues , they started rolling out work equipment in batches started in February.
