Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

How to check if any company is going to announce layoff

Check if your company is going to do layoff. I came across this info online, I guess we are still not out of the woods, so thought to share with this group, hope it’s useful.

  1. Search Your company HQ state + warn act in google. Ex: “Georgia warn act”
  1. Go to the state’s .gov site in the search results and click on the monthly WARN report.
  1. Check if your company has filed for layoffs. This filing must be done 60 days prior to layoffs. I hope it’s useful and gives 2 more months to prepare/job hunt.

P.S - Applies only for the companies with 100+ FT employees and if the severance is less than 60 days.

Sending good vibes your way! Good Luck!
PS: checked Metlife is not on list

I haven't seen any reporting that says MetLife lost the tax incentive so I guess that means they hit the target. What I want to know is if they turn around and lay off 400 people in Cary this year does that do anything to the tax incentive?

What happened to the 400 new hires for Cary? Haven’t seen a follow up announcement…Asking for a friend…

They have started counseling individuals out of the organization and issuing written warnings to those individuals. Also they are announcing that individuals are leaving to pursue outside opportunities. They want to document everything and “guide” the individual employee being targeted for termination through that employee’s termination for asserted performance reasons, so they encourage the individual to make sure that he works with Employee Relations.

Maybe making it so miserable that employees leave is part of the strategy hmmmmm

Workforce reductions have been happening and will continue to happen. They will never say it out loud.

@Not a newbie

Bingo. They're smart enough to know how to play the shell game that avoids triggering the WARN Act. Funny how it's never more than 499 people being laid off in a state...

Spot on Not a newbie. With MetLife stock already down, if they did a layout that required a WARN notice, the market would know something was wrong, and drop even more.

If there are layoffs, they will be stealth ones. I can't tell if they want to keep people, or have them leave. So many mixed messages.

Not on the list because they conveniently layoff just below the reporting threshold, to avoid bad publicity. They tend to layoff sporadically throughout the year to avoid WARN Notices. They layoff every year and have not appeared on a WARN Notice in years! The real clue that you will start to see now that bonus has been paid, are the internal emails about how employees have informed their managers of their intent to retire or pursue outside opportunities. The language is the same, regardless of the manager sending the email. No ingenuity there.
