Thread regarding Bose layoffs

Seems inevitable…

Not sure how Bose is going to make it into the next few years without more cuts. Growing from where things are will take more time/patience and money… all dwindling over the last 5 years. I would predict more sales and marketing cuts… engineering is bare bones already.

It is very concerning about what is happening-
It seems short of the Noise cancelling headphones all of the other businesses and product lines seem to be doing poorly.
Let's take a look- ECO 1 was destroyed because it was meant to migrate to ECO 2 but for some reason it didn't and we thought we could manage both. I worked in retail and it was such a joke- Do you want a Lifestyle 650- sure but only on ECO2, do you want in ceiling speakers and a SA-5 sure but only if it's ECO2. We created a product line that was competing with itself/Sonos and was not competitive in the first place.
Bose Open Ear Buds- We always prided ourselves on the soft silicone tips of the QC/SoundSport/Ear buds- somehow we managed to create the most uncomfortable ear hook in the history of listening. We also gave it a bizarre charging case/holder that was clunky and strange.
Bose Frames- Cool product, but never took off. Not sure if it was marketing, cost, or actual product. But this should of been huge. I heard a rumor of a Luxocota version that would of been branded by them instead of Bose- would of been cool to see.
What a shame, we truly made some amazing things. I think going low end is the straw the broke our backs, becuase when Bose was at it's best we made some amazing items- 791s were great- if we revamped our Stereo products we could of gotten that customer who grew up with us and the "nostalgia" customer. But hey let sell some earbuds that are poorly constructed and delaminate, keep them on the market for way too long and never revamp them! Good idea!

I left a year ago after spending decades morphing into different roles. I miss (most of) the people but I don’t miss the company. Now that I look back, I can’t believe I felt at home at an organization (automotive) that was so toxic. I am happy to have been a part of the RIF—and the kick-in-the-a-s I needed to find better opportunity elsewhere. Better pay, better leadership. The grass is greener once you jump over the fence!

Cutting lifeboats, each cut is a lifeboat leaving. Pro, PTS, retail, all of these cuts are never coming back. If the root cause is bad business all the cuts in the world can’t make this move. Eventually the assets will be gone and nothing else can save them.

Very disappointed to have been impacted after only a year. Thankfully I had a bad feeling and opened up my linked in as "available to work" a couple of months ago. So in 4 days I have already had 3 interviews and 2 second interviews scheduled for next week. I honestly can't see what their new "long term vision" is with all these cuts.

Bose new management is a collective of woke id--ts hiring not the best but based on color and pronouns. It's finished like all woke companies.

Out of curiosity, has Bose gone all-in on social justice/equity? Do those of you remaining have to do yearly training on why you're bad people? Just curious...

Lots of TERRIBLE decisions this go around. Many of the "heart, soul and brains" folks as previously mentioned. They already had a tough road ahead, it's about to be alot more difficult.

SENIOR SENIOR (CEO/President) management is the issue. They do NOT understand the heart, soul and brains of the company. After being at Bose 27 years myself - they have laid off the people who could have saved the company in these changing times. They STILL have good products - but id--ts are in charge. I have moved on and would never go back - but one of the best things they could do is look back at the sales and marketing activities of 10 and 15 years ago, and sell 2nd, 3rd and 4th systems to the millions of Bose owners already in the marketplace who love and trust Bose. The lifetime value of a Bose owners is tens of thousands of dollars, and reselling headphones and bluetooth speakers to them is crazy. History and experience outweigh and will outperform recent college grads 100% of the time. They need to get new senior management!

Well, I, too was affected. I have a very, very short tenure (less than 1 year) but I guess my salary was enough of a reason to cut me. I was nervous joining Bose because of the layoffs that seem to happen every year but thought it was worth the risk.

I don't understand how cutting back on people is going to positive impact their portfolio. Quality will drop even if production increases. Supporting product reliability and voice of consumer is more important than funneling money to R&D. It doesn't matter what Bose researches/develops if we can't solve a consumer problem and reduce their return rates.

Very curious where Bose will be in 1 year.

So can anyone get into details what professional went through? I think this was somewhat known?

Bose Professional laid off a whole division as of March 1st, 2023, the week that everyone was promised new offers. Empty promises of switching over to a new private equity company.

It is happening again….Bose is going to lose its rest soul. Without sense the fire people. One thing is clear: Bose will be 100% exchangeable….so sad

I was laid off from Bose awhile ago. This happens every year and it's not to good for moral or people's mental health. I honestly don't know how Bose keeps their doors open. If they keep this up year after year it's going to say Sony on the side of the building pretty soon.

Really sad to hear about the layoffs, I worked at Bose for 25 years until the last round of layoffs in 2018. Though I have no proof, IMO I and others were selected because of our age and salary. Anyway, it's sad to see what has happened to a once great company since Dr Bose left. While under Dr Bose, the company really seemed family friendly with annual celebrations and a family friendly HR. Once Dr Bose passed, the entire company began changing. Quality pushed aside for production numbers, the focus of the company going from innovation to seeing what the competition was doing and trying to copy it.
So many great ideas sold off such as the Bose Ride System. I miss the old days.

This company hasn't been about technology for a long while. Top payed executives and bloated marking, though that's been whittled down bast few years. How many mini speakers and headphones does the world need?

The upper management is responsible for this. They are top heavy and the management is clueless about the products and the business. Dr Bose predicted this years ago. What’s left are not the people with vision to move the company forward. Their roadmaps are dependent on skill sets the top management refuses to acknowledge are inferior. I’m afraid there isnt much hope unless there was an executive cleansing which isn’t likely. Sad. Good luck!
