Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

B&N DROVE ME CRAZY MY LAST TWO YEARS THERE

I had been working for B&N for almost 20 years when new management came in, and strange things started happening there. The new Manager installed a mailbox to put our assignments in, but my projects were never in my box. I was never scheduled on days I had an assignment. The new assistant manager accused me of missing 250 returns! I didn't see how that could have happened-when I heard the PDT beep I always pulled the book! And this ASM was always scolding me over every little mistake he said I made, no matter how trivial. and he was always using arrogant terms like "you should" and "I want". I got written up for being behind in my work, and I just didn't understand why. The ASM even admitted that my projects weren't in my mailbox! And no matter how hard I worked to keep up(taking the trouble to look up the projects myself), they acted as if nothing had changed. It turned out that the store was closing, and I was discouraged by the store and the district manager from continuing with the company at another location. The store manager kept saying "I don't want to see you fail". That's when I finally figured out they'd been gaslighting me that whole time-light dawns on Marble Head! This was all before James Daunt.

B&N management really got worse around 2000 and they found all kinds of ways to get rid of the best employees while mo--ns were promoted to take over as store managers.

I'd never work for a corporation without a union. Barnes & Noble is as bad as all the rest, they will get rid of you when you make too much.

At least you did not knock out your manager like a bookseller did at a store in NYC. Crazy what has happened to this place I hope more people come forward with stories like this.
