I know this happened several years ago, but why did MetLife sell off its property and auto insurance portfolio to Farmers? Just curious, as a former MetLife policyholder.

The sale of MetLife Home and Auto had nothing to do with the SIFI de-designation.
MetLife Bank - yeah. That was an attempt to dodge SIFI.
Forced to by the government because was too big SiFI designation
@OP+1mKV1XhW - You say your are a former MetLife policyholder, but are you a current employee? Perhaps in Pet Insurance and wondering if it would or could happen to you?
MetLife couldn't compete.
Premiums were too high for the coverage.
Even with employee discounts, it was higher than what I paid to another carrier.
