Manager calls on day of leaving voicemail after voicemail, four total. Saying they need me at opening tomorrow when I’m scheduled off. Can they harass you on a day off?

Former MBA. NO ONE NO MATTER HOW HIGH UP, CAN NOT FORCE AN HOURLY COLLEAGUE TO WORK ON THEIR DAY OFF. You may also say no and you don’t have to give ANY explanation because it is your day off. Actually you don’t have to give an explanation on your working day if you don’t want to extend your hours last minute. You can say no and leave it at that.
I work in the Macys when I call I tell them I will not be a good today and sick so I cannot come in and the manager tell me she can’t work for it do to the store people not here. Why go then? I don’t see if I go to Mumbai to the people who sick then I go here to the Macys.
Honestly don’t group sickness or family together with these people because we all know those who call out often
are not due to sickness or family. Who get sick or family need help once a week - 52 time a year? Those who truly sick or family emergency will call out once in awhile, not consistent enough for anyone to even notice.
There is medical accommodation if needed. FMLA is also available for family members who need help.
Not eligible for any of those due to whatever reason? Maybe step down from full time to part time and pick up extra shift when able to. If they can’t at least work 12 hours a week, why holding on to the job? Macy’s doesn’t pay livable wage anyway so what do they get out from working less than 12 hour a week?
This is why we all need a proper grammar course.
well this is why Macys managers are not actually managers.. they are useless , timewaster who give the illusion that they are valuable and working. if you are a leader you would have someone or more to open in the morning.. this is called poor timing , and not being able to see what's ahead like a true leader.. so for all you managers who sit on LinkedIn liking meme of leadership you could not lead yourself out of a paper bag.
Unless you know the person who called out was just lazy, saying to direct your anger at the person who called out is irresponsible and childish. People get sick, need a mental health day, have family issues, etc etc.
And yes, they can call you on your day off to see if you can work.
It's fine to call once or leave a voicemail if someone calls out and they're trying to get someone to cover.
But that's that. If they say no or don't call back, move on. Calling someone 4 times on their day off is borderline harassing / putting pressure on them to come in and is 100% not acceptable.
Manager here. Always wonder about that. Why call out so often? Why not just quit? You are not working enough to pay the bills anyway. God knows Macy’s pay nothing. There is no way a full time colleague who only work 3 shifts out of 4 a week can pay the bill. There are those who need a job and happy to work why keep the job that you don’t need away from those who will? So no one will get called on their day off.
@IVWY
Nobody likes you because you smell.
This is why no one likes me. I always call my coworkers out when they call out. Like because you can’t plan your life like an adult now I have to work twice as hard because you were supposed to be here and help me. So when they are complaining in the break room about getting call on day off, I would just tell them redirect your frustration to the coworker that call out. They are the one that causes managers to call those who are not working the last minute. Yeah yeah yeah there is always a one off but most of the time a manager call you for the next day shift is usually because someone didn’t plan their life like an adult and call out the last minute and everybody has to scramble trying to cover it
Managers CAN call you on your day off. However if in system they cannot FORCE you to work last minute (unless upper management).
So yeah that decision is up to you. Doesn’t look great if you say no…but you also cannot be reprimanded.
Four calls is excessive. Sounds like they really needed help.

How is four calls in one day not harassment???
If you are hourly they can not contact you on your day off.
At least that’s what I’ve been told.
Start keeping record on how many times you are being contacted off the clock.
After a while take it to hr. Not sure if they will do anything bc let’s face it Macys HR is a joke but hopefully something will change.
leaving four voicemails about the same thing on the same day is harassment if someone is not responding. it means they don't want to talk to you. id--t.
Just block them. That’s what i did lol
Doesn't sound like harassment. Don't be so dramatic.
Don't answer phone, don't respond to texts.
