Thread regarding Red Hat layoffs

Don't trust your boss

About a month ago, my boss along with my colleagues was singing praises about how crucial I was for the upcoming projects. My boss even said that my contributions were going to be so important for the success of the team. And then, out of nowhere, I was told that my position was no longer needed. Don't trust your managers, people. They'll lie in a heartbeat.

You're not alone and without a doubt your contributions were meaningful and will do amazing things at the next company

Same boat...RSUs for years, accompanied by "we want to invest in you", "you're doing a great job"... then out of nowhere "please feel free to turn off your camera at any time during this call. Your position has been eliminated. Your last day..blah blah."
Its tough. Just remember life outside work is your real life.. you are not disposable there.

I sympathize for you getting let go. The real issue is when will people realize they are nothing, and I truly mean nothing, to a company than an expense. That is all you are viewed as. All discussions come down to "is the EXPENSE worth it?".

In the spirit of fairness if that praise came from an FLM they didn't know a month before.

Sorry. That's almost like getting a "positive verbal warning". That didn't happen at Red Sh-t, but at a different company. Good performance review one day, an atta boy the next, and then PIP soon thereafter. When asked what the atta boy was, it was a "positive verbal warning". Sounds like a good name for a band.
