RE: Pure vs Solidfire - solidfire was being purchased by Dell/EMC when they pulled out at the last minute, leaving Solidfire close to financial ruin. The SF exit strategy was in tatters and NetApp breathed 'some' life into it by buying it relatively cheap. Pure just wanted to eat NetApp for breakfast, and by the looks of it, it absolutely has.

Imagine if NetApp had purchased Pure rather than Solidfire. In that scenario, Pure would be in the position Solidfire is now, and Solidfire would be where Pure stands today. :D NetApp seems unable to think beyond ONTAP, and historically, they haven't been successful in fully capitalizing on any new acquisitions.

Apparently anything that isn't ONTAP/WAFL. Because marketing doesn't know how to position it and sales doesn't know/care how to sell it.
