It woke me up. I used to believe this is a company that cares about its members and employees. USAA hides behind its "Mission" and supporting the military to justify lower wages, benefits disappearing, and expectation of extra work. Im disappointed how many of my peers left in the last two years, a lot of talent out the door and in its place are all these micromanaging people. The only thing keeping me was the ability to have a decent work life balance and it's gone now.

"screaming children"...I guess Wayne is hanging out on here once again.
It's not even so much about the RTO (Even though there is nothing Hybrid about being in the office 4 days a week)
Employees are overworked and stressed and afraid to leave because of the job market being what it is and possibility of benefits not being as good.
It gives the feeling of being trapped.
Well, saying fellow, coworkers are screaming. Children is a douche bag thing to say.
However, I completely agree with the original post. This whole debacle has been a wake up call and I am eagerly wrapping up my masters, so I can go on to do what I do best somewhere else for a great deal more compensation.
Re: “ gaslighting culture of toxic positivity”
I couldn’t have said it better! That’s exactly it. People so desperate for things not to be as awful as they are or who are themselves corrupt and benefitting from the current awful state of affairs are running around telling anyone who will listen that we have a great culture, and only a few people are unhappy. We don’t and there’s far more than just a few people feeling this way. Calling us names doesn’t change that.
I think it's funny someone would want to come on here and say "screaming children" because people want a better work life balance. A job shouldn't be my life . The gaslighting culture of toxic positivity is just insane.
I loved working at USAA. But I can see it for what it really is now - a company and a job like any other.
“Screaming children”…that guys an id--t. Cutting expenses makes sense if your CEO isnt patting himself on the back and giving himself a huge bonus! Telling everyone to do more with less, meanwhile hiring a bunch of other failed bankers. Why can’t he try and do more with less? Wasting money to bring in contractors to provide efficiency. These contractors doing these process interviews are clueless what to even ask! Who knows what they’re charging USAA. “If you dont like it, you can leave”….no thanks! Im also a member, looking out for the association…maybe the CEO should go! Stop drinking the kool-aid!
Micromanagement = control
If someone who believes they will be "rewarded" for this kind of behavior is put into any position of real or perceived authority, that person can make your life miserable (actually, the goal). That person can withhold work and act in subtle (and not so subtle) tactics of intimidation and humiliation.
It is sad to witness this type of behavior in others and to be the object of that type of behavior. Learn to separate reality from this type of negative behavior. It is hard. But you are worth it!
The main thing is to keep a positive state of mind and increase your professional proficiency by taking outside-of-work classes. Always be on the lookout for your next opportunity and realize that you, and you alone, are in charge of your career.
It took about 15 years for my kool-aid to turn sour!
Glad you are seeing this now. Take care of yourself and your career. I learned this the hard way when I was laid off earlier this year. I worked alongside former military officers who even told me this was happening and I didn't listen. I was too bought into the culture and believed things would change. It's not.
