Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Thought this layoff story deserved a thread of its own

I was laid off 2 years ago from Oracle, Not because i was a bad performer, i was in fact one of the top 25% in terms of performance. I was however lied to and blinded by my manager , who kept repeating to me how valuable i am to his team in each 1:1 . Not even once my work was complained about. I created trainings for newer members and kept helping them in every scrum meetings.
On a Tuesday morning my manager called me on my personal cell phone and in a cold voice , read the lay off script to me . I waited for the script to finish and said ‘Thank you ……. , you have been great ‘ .
Looking back today that layoff was the best thing that happened to my career yet . I now work at a place where the work culture is much better , pay is better and work-life balance is really good.
Had it not been for the layoff , i would have been sitting at the same place where everything is taken for granted , working long hours .
One thing I learned from this whole episode is NEVER trust your manager , EVER. They can backstab you with a smile on their face .

At the time when the CX team was downsized, I served as a manager. Initially, I volunteered to sacrifice my position to save the team. Secondly, I advised my team to update their resumes in response to the leaked information from June, indicating potential cuts, and encouraged them to seek opportunities both within and outside of Oracle, with a preference for the latter. I assured them of my assistance in their job search. I informed them that when the inevitable HR meeting occurred, I would deliver a prepared speech in a composed manner, which ultimately happened after I was let go first. I found HR to be disorganized and overstaffed. Fortunately, my former team appears to be thriving outside of Oracle, utilizing their considerable talents. They have my unwavering support indefinitely.

“I don’t get Why are so many people downvoting this post”

People downvote because a ex employee who was laid off is having a better paying job and progressing in his/her career while all of us are still at the same place with no raises or promotions! suxtobe@Oracle

Remember folks, at the top Mr. Ellison has an agenda that does not include 99% of the Oracle employee base. Do what you need to do for your family, your career. No one else in Oracle or any other company will look out for you.

About 6 or 7 years ago, I and several other colleagues were all laid off via online conference. The manager read a script to break the news, and that was it; no discussion or questions allowed. This was the first time I'd heard of people being laid off this way. I could tell by the tone of the manager's voice that he was unhappy and uncomfortable having to do it this way. I suspect that upper management dictates using this layoff method, not the people who have to read the script.

Or, your manager could have been given a list and told whom to lay off. Either way it stinks. Not sure which is the case for you, Again, either way it still stink and somebody put a target on you.
