Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Why after all this time?

Why do you people continue to be shocked, amazed and upset over the treatment of expats at Aramco? They have been wholly owned by the Saudi government (i.e. the royal family) since 1980. I would be more surprised if they operated the company more to the benefit of the world's expat community rather than elevating their own educated populace, which they have fostered at great expense. As far as the underhanded dealings and chicanery goes, my advice, meant with the best of intentions, is grow up.

These locals goons are so d-mb as not to realise how id--tic their words are, under even the lightest critical analysis. How could millennials be posting and talking about their experience as expats in Aramco? Dear oh dear.

Saudi trolls out in force. Must have hit a nerve. The truth hurts.

Probably millennials posting here. They seem to complain more about the perceived 'unfairness' in life.

Wow! Some vicious angry bitter folks working at Aramco these days. Just man up and leave; cut your losses. You have obviously made a mistake by you own admission.

This has been written by a local corporate goon. Twisted, entitled, nonsensical comment - clearly someone who is unable to think for themselves. What does 1980 have to do with anything? What a m0ron. Aramco is run by corporate monsters, just like a dodgy Sicilian crime family, only with worse food and weather. Plus Italian men don’t wear dresses.

The authour of this post missed the point. We in the west expect that promises made by an employer be honoured regardless. Many of us have experienced the opposite by Aramco and it's managers. Promises made only to be broken. Shinanagens and disrespect by the ones that made those promises. Anything that Aramco promises or says cannot be believed.

I guess ‘we’ in the west have been brought up to expect and respect human rights. That’s why we react this way.

You could with some credence say well why come to Aramco then?

At any rate, you don’t know the insidious and despicable nature of how some expats and their families have been treated. Or rather if you are a local, you may well know but choose, as most of you do, to look the other way (at best).

Attitudes like yours ARE the problem. Cretin.

I was in upstream and we had Saudis from Stanford, Mines, UT and many other renowned universities. Quite capable individuals. Sometimes the work ethic was a bit light but very capable nonetheless. I guess the other departments, not so much huh?

There is still a lack of capable Saudis mostly because Aramco doesn't reward them for competence. Why acquire skills and work hard when the promotion is just going to go to the guy next to you with wasta? Most of the capable Saudis I knew wanted to leave the Kingdom. Churning through cheap expats will do nothing to solve this problem.

KFUPM isn’t world class. I can count on one hand the number of locals I’ve met that have the ability to think critically. Face it, at aramco kissing backside is all that matters.

Do you deny that the PDP's have degrees, many advanced, from the best universities in the world? And I have personally worked with and mentored many intelligent young Saudis. Now some of the non-professional positions are somewhat lacking but the professionals seem quite capable. Perhaps you are painting with too broad a brush.
