Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Layoffs and bankruptcy are the least of Barnes and Noble’s problems.

Recently, before going to an interview for a managers position at BN, I talked to previous managers as well as current managers and employees. Not only was I disappointed, I was shocked what I had learned.
They said upper management was very unprofessional and even unethical. They would prevent people from being promoted and worse, they would look for ways to push people out without having to fire them. I also learned of some very disgusting illegal behavior by the management which I cannot disclose here.

It appears the last time they had major layoffs, it had obviously left a black cloud over the entire company and the morale has never recovered. It was overall a very bad experience for the people who had left and the employees who are still there are looking to find something better. The turnover is high and company is very unstable.

My advice is to research any company before you interview with them.

I heard they forced the last New England Regional Manager out because she and her favorites were making shady deals too.

This company is such a disgrace. It should be shut down forever.

Illegal? You bet . There was a DM who cut side deals with local publishers in Tennessee for endcap space

The good employees should have formed a union when they had the chance. So many disgusting and illegal things happening in this company! I'm amazed it's still around.

None of this is new. You have to be really desperate to want to work for this failing crooked company now. I'm curious about the illegal accusations though, I think we all have a list of them too.
