Thread regarding Phillips 66 layoffs

Considering an Offer in Houston after Recent Layoffs – Seeking Advice

Just read up on the recent round of layoffs – quite the shocker. Funny timing, I've just received an offer for a job in Houston. I'm feeling a bit unsure about taking the plunge. This forum has been buzzing with discussions about the whole business transformation scene, advantage66, and some major restructuring action. Talked to my recruiter, they're saying things have cooled down. I'm in the finance game, currently with a bigger company out on the east coast. Home's where the heart is, and mine's set on getting back to Houston where the family is. If anyone's got some outside perspective to share, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks a ton in advance!

I’ve been with the company since late 2019. I work in Midstream & cannot tell you how many re-orgs have happened in less than 4 years. I count three this year.

Base salaries are not the top, but the bonus structure is very good. Culture is that people are nice. Really nice.

If you can deal with uncertainty, it’s a good place to be. If you can’t handle knowing who your boss’s boss will be next month, reconsider. The worst that may happen is that you move to Houston & have to find a different job in 6-12 months. It’s unlikely, but not out of the question.

I actually come to laugh at you whiners. I don’t work there anymore. I voted with my feet. I guess you can say I was special or privileged. But that had more to do with me doing a good job versus complaining like you all do. Stop whining and get to work

Supervisor straight up told me that I was being laid off to settle a score. Straight up retaliation. When I complained all they said was McKenzie recommended it and the manager was just following through. Wtf. Phillips 66 used to be a good place. Not a place where they spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a new office for an ex CEO. Not a place where corruption and nepotism is rewarded. Not a place where doing good means su-king up to the right people. And definitely not a place where senior managers and executives use employees as a dating site. It’s absolutely disgusting. None of the senior managers and executives are making money due to their decisions but instead due to shear luck of market conditions.

From what I’ve seen, being laid off has had very little to do with performance. It’s mostly been being in the wrong position at the wrong time and some settling of scores. Oh yeah!! And protecting the protected species group, of which the previous poster must be a member.

To the “valid concern” person. It’s also valid for people to point out when people are just complaining or being toxic. If there is someone who enjoys their time here, the negativity and toxic people come out. From what I’ve seen here, this is where the rejects go to whine. If they did better, they wouldn’t be laid off.

I like to think those that are so vigorously felating the company here are probably RLT members? Feels like our whole RLT here at Billings. Sit everyone down to talk about morale and then announce the reason everyone is leaving is because "The RLT asks hard questions and people aren't used to actually being accountable."

No, people are leaving because we're constantly raked over the coals for not being able to exceed absurd metrics while NOTHING GETS FIXED BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE HAS LEFT ALREADY.

Get a clue

Accounting is part of Phase 1 of a multi-phase process to outsource. Do not assume that the other parts of Finance are safe, even if the other Finance groups were not part of Phase 1.

To be clear, Ive been with P66 a loong time and ive never seen company morale this bad. You dont have to look at this site, just talk to people. My dept has lost probably 1000years of experience over just the last year. Some via layoff, but many more leaving voluntarily due to better workplace environment and pay elsewhere.
Of course, there will always be those who are offended by "disloyalty" to a company that has none in return. They will call every person with a valid concern a "crybaby" or tell them to "vote with your feet". That's already happening, my friend, but the complaints are still valid. Hard to say youve saved money as a company if those who remain are less competent to get things done.

Accounting is where the company is laying off. Finance just brought in 6 new people. Closer to the business you are within finance the more perceived value you will be.

Finance is exactly where the company is laying off.

Phillips 66 isn’t a bad place to work. If you’re good and are not lazy like most of these b-ms are on here then you’ll do well. Just ignore them and do what’s best for your family. You can obviously see how toxic they are even to positive people.

Yeah, that's not a bad option. P66 does have a very generous relocation policy, and if you stick around for a year you don't have to pay it back. Could move, sit out your year and find something else. Can't figure why anyone would want to live in Houston, but you do you.

You'd probably have a couple good years at least. I wouldn't count on spending your whole career at P66 but you could get the nice corp. relo and a couple good years then move on to another Houston based company if things aren't going well after the 2 years.

I wouldn't. If you were fresh out of college and wanted some experience with a big player on your resume, sure, but unless you're coming from a seriously unhealthy organization, I don't think you'll find P66 an improvement...

Pass on any offer you get from P666

You do you! First and foremost! Always keep options open and if something better comes along, take it! P66 has lost a lot of great talent lately.
