Thread regarding Splunk Inc. layoffs

Gold Partner for 10 years

I have never posted on here, but heard of this site from one of my employees. I am a gold partner of splunk's with over 20 years of tech/security and splunk exp. Never in my time have I experienced the arrogance I come across or just the d-mb behavior of some of the people I have to deal with. especially when there is a real problem. It seems like the talent, inside splunk, has gone significantly down, like talking tech. when I bring up issues, it's all about buy more, try more, have you seen our AI stuff? NO! That's not how you solve a problem I have with SPL. The amount of new people that have come in there with literally no tech experience is appalling. I think some think the only difference between SIEM and SOAR are the letters. Need to get your butts in gear. It's not the old days 10 years ago when you were the only kid on the block. People are replacing splunk with other tools and there are TONS of tools that are now a one-stop shop better (e-hop, rapid7, qualys, sentinel). Prices are also way to high. My guess is most of the profit lining people's pockets....the worst way to manage in tech. get it together.

OP here. You definitely know what you’re talking about. I just noticed a job notification was recently sent to me. I go on their careers site just to check the latest out and most of their jobs are based out of Poland and Costa Rica. People should be concurred cause as you nailed it, it’s about making the shareholders happy. I feel like most splunkers are oblivious to how real world business works and they could Jsut become a casualty of war. I kick myself for spending any time there cause it was a bad experience and now realize the product is what others have said, archaic and behind the times. I don’t even know if anyone would buy the company give some of their illegal activities. From day one, Gary never cared. Not for nothing, he’s weird to me. Showed up acting like things were gonna change for the better and ended up being just real awkward laughs and silent sketchy moves.

Top talent started walking out the door when Gary started. A trickle has turned into a flood as he's continued to worsen employee experience for the benefit of shareholders (not to mention lie repeatedly - redundancy, bonus, WFH expected next). A move to low cost centres was the final nail in the coffin for many. Don't expect quality anymore, just cheap quantity.

OP…thanks for that input. I have zero doubt. It’s somewhat entertaining to me to hear splunkers try to even talk the landscape to me.

SIEM and SOAR platforms don't work period. They're all useless shelfware. Splunk never used their own SIEM until after they got hacked big time. But it didn't matter as they knew SIEMs are expensive and impossible to install and configure, it's nothing more than a Syslog server.

I worked at Splunk and another famous security company who also sold a SIEM and the latter got hacked big time too. Even security companies don't use their own SIEMs and get hacked with it or without it in place.
