what ended up happening with this? any widespread layoffs?

Was offered the VRP package. Looks like taking it is still my best bet with all these changes, going national, open almost 24/7 and on all major holidays. Not to mention the mandatory shift bid when we were told we wouldn't lose the shift we had and even more micromanagement. See ya!
I've been through these before... If you come back in a year you get to keep your seniority. Also, take the rest of the year off, train, or build something. Orgs don't get new headcount until the following year. Recruiting everywhere will pick up in February. Trust me, going hard & heavy at the job search in the last quarter is soul-su-king and IMO not worth the time.
