Layoffs across the board as Coherent struggles with variable interest debt load from II-VI merger

Coherent had significant layoffs across many US sites in Oct 2023 as the company struggles with the variable interest, high debt load from the merger with II-VI, Inc. Management underestimated the Fed hikes in interest rate over the past year. Also, the fiscal 2024 forecast was recently down-graded, so drastic cost-cutting measures were implemented. Compared to industry peers, the CEO is grossly overpaid and should be held responsible by the shareholders for the retrospectively poor, risky financing decisions made during the merger.

The optical industry is in the pu pu yet again. Look at lumentum too. Total disaster. Ciena isn't buying. That caused lumentum to crater.

I think you are luckier at coherent than at lumentum.

The chief of lumentum is lost.
