Breaking from reality, the “S.N.L.” sketch added Kenan Thompson, who was playing the president of the online University of Phoenix. Asked if he would condemn antisemitism, Thompson said, “Well, my campus is the internet, so antisemitism is kind of our most popular major. And our mascot is po-n.” But he told Troast that his school would consider offering a course on the subject. “Lady, we’ll offer a course on anything,” he said. “The only mandatory courses we have are how to login to the University of Phoenix online and how to set up autopay.”
Some of the comments were less humorous and more telling:
As a former University of Phoenix employee, I laughed most at Kenan Thompson’s portrayal of our imaginary chancellor. His joke about autopay hit a little too close to home.
@Andrew - I have a Masters from UoP. I've been a graduate student (online) and have worked as an undergraduate instructor for UoP back when they had in-person classes (the old days!). So my experience covers online, in-person, undergraduate, graduate, student, and instructure. I can tell you that UoP is a joke. If you can write papers, you can breeze through. Many of my undergrad students couldn't write on an 8th grade level, yet the "university" demanded they use APA format (nevermind that their sentence structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation were atrocious). No exams. No quizzes. I quit being an instructor because I felt like a fraud. I've learned more from Google's online certification programs (4-6 months) than two years at UoP.
