Sorry, don't mean to sound harsh, but it seems you were given peanuts. Providing accommodation such as lodging for essential workers should not be treated as an exception but something that is mandatory.
I'm saying this because when I had to do essential work for a past employer, my hotel and meal expenses were always covered regardless if there were any snowstorms. Management appreciation were shown in the form of bigger bonuses and raises.
If I was you, I'll be looking for a new job and act non-essential (quiet quitting) if I was given only promotional items by upper management. Executives must feel really good about themselves, like they're Santa Claus, having their assistants pull t-shirts and pens from the stock room to give to essential workers. What a bunch of cheapskates.
