Thread regarding Highmark Health layoffs

Threat of layoffs, job anxiety, member attitudes

I feel very similar to a lot of people posting- I’m so insanely anxious about being laid off that I feel like my job performance is suffering. I’m in a customer facing position, so I feel like I have a good gauge on the temperature of member attitude and happiness and let me tell you: it’s really, really bad. People are NOT happy, and it’s getting to the point where myself and my coworkers are being yelled at, degraded, and reduced to frustration, sometimes tears. The combination of everything is enough to make me almost throw in the towel every day. I don’t know how the switch to AI or offshore is going to go when most members complain about IVR and offshore reps not understanding their questions or concerns. Highmark is going absolutely downhill and I can’t wait to leave

I was laid and I was scared to death. But now I have an amazing job that not only pays more but treats me better! You will too!

I’ve been looking at jobs at Highmark and thinking of considering applying since my company is laying off people too. But it doesn’t seem like Highmark has its act together in terms of layoffs either lol. I really don’t want to be in an environment where “impending doom” layoffs are always hanging over everyone’s head.

Speaking of customer interactions,.I have got some Highmark branded gear for tenure a few years ago(dont want to reveal my exact years but ive been with the Blues for well over a decade), I rarely wear Highmark branded gear outside of work but last week I did for the first time in a while.. a member approached me(I'm in Buffalo, NY) and said that BCBS went from the best Insurance he ever had to the worst since Highmark acquired Healthnow. He spoke about how bad customer service was, how the website doesn't work well, dr-gs are no longer being covered that used to be and went on and on.. he honestly seemed emotional and he said he has been with BCBS for almost 2 decades and didn't want to switch but Highmark was forcing him to reconsider. Highmark has lost sight of what made BCBS a trusted brand and they run it like a pump and dump penny stock company. Laying off loyal workers, people with critical knowledge and care about their job for the sake of saving money by outsourcing may give you a short term boost but longer term you will lose your membership/values/talent and the company will be a shell of its former self.
