Sheer puffery.

Ginni is arguably the worst tech CEO ever. Bob Lord (AOL) wears that crown. So of course he landed at IBM.

Ginni the Loser certainly was an IBM pioneer:

  1. Ginni set a record with 22 consecutive quarters of quarterly losses
  2. Ginni paid Global Foundries $1.5B to take microelectronics and all the IP, this was her idea of a shrewd business deal
  3. Ginni massively overpaid $34B for Red Hat, which is still a mystery, but the truth will eventually come out
  4. Ginni actively engaged in and promoted age discrimination with her "Dinobaby" nonsense.
  5. Ginni F'd up the system X deal
  6. Ginni's Strategic Imperatives and Roadmap were all a complete disaster

I love this conversation. Too bad we can’t have like a virtual happy hour and continue this discussion. Many of you are so spot on. I am guessing a few ex HPers have similar opinions about Carly

@1fgi - probably too much but then Ginni never had much in the way of common sense or anything much of value between her ears, unless you count her ego which counts for zip.

Of course it could be her bestie, AK who wants to say "Ginni, I love you since you gave me the sun, moon and stars when you made me CEO and Chairman of IBM. I could have been waiting forever for that alignment of stars to happen, if it weren't for your graciousness to move over to be the ex-Chairperson of IBM, after I paid more than I should have for Red Hat"

I wonder how much Ginni paid for that article.

Plain and simply, she defrauded IBM shareholders to achieve bonuses. Should be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Only an id--t journalist (from India no less !) would state that Rometty was at pioneering leader at IBM. She was the poster child for failure for the company even while she was in charge, much like Carly Fiorina at Hewlett Packard. Both these "so called" leaders drove their respective companies into the ground with their poor business decisions, talent for their huge and undeserved huge bonuses and the destruction of company morale through huge layoffs in the US.

Among Rometty's most notable failures were Softlayer (now called IBM cloud - she thought it was another Ebay!), the Weather Channel (why on earth would anyone even consider this a good or even relevant match for IBM's existing business ?), Watson Healthcare (the perfect example of how to turn a great idea into an absolute unmitigated disaster and even put your niece in charge to run it into a bigger loss for a quarter or two).

She tried to redefine her many failures as successes by claiming larger than life bonuses from the geriatric squad she appointed to the IBM board. And even post CEO employment she tries to claim that post higher education does not matter and that badges are the way to go for everyone. The jury is still out on that one. Well, Rometty, any fool can get a worthless IBM badge from the IBM Web site without even trying hard to master complex subjects like AI, Security, etc. It takes talent, brains and effort to get college degrees in Science and Engineering and keep your career growing until IBM lays you off due to financial mismanagement from the IBM goons at the top. And of course, money, which you and your fellow IBM executives were so adept at stealing from the IBM US employees on one pretext or the other. Particularly offshoring jobs to lower cost countries where people don't even have decent communication skills. And the trend has continued under the talentless AK who wants to send all the jobs to his home country so he can be given more awards from the President of India. After all, layoffs for every US employee but AK's closest friends, executives and buddies are necessary for the good of business. It's world class nepotism at it finest in a public company.

softlayer loads of other acquisitions - etc etc etc paid loads of $$, for little or no return. Took a 120 billion $$ turnover to 70 billion +- and extracted over 500 million for IBM coffers as renumeration.
shes great at doing ginni a bit favor - not so IBM. but then that loads of people in power - like governments they are not your friend.

Was Ginni any better than that lady who was CEO of HP and ran for US President - Carly Fiorina - heard she was also a disaster. HP - once another great company in the past like IBM. Made some stupid acquisitions as well. What was that search engine they bought and then was a lawsuit that the company was overvalued intentionally

Don’t forget the Watson Health disaster!

Anybody that thinks she’s worth listening to is a mor*n.

The only thing that Ginni pioneered at IBM is "Redefining total failure as Success", something that AK continues to do today in 2024

I had to laugh. One time I heard Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, refer to Ginni as "Wickedly Smart". I doubt the late Steve Jobs would have said that. He would have seen right through her.

Watson, Roadmap 2020, Warren Buffett sold all his IBM stock, etc etc .....The only thing Ginni pioneered at IBM is redefining complete failure as success

I think we need to ask the question “what innovation came out of IBM during the Rometty CEO era? Answer = ???? Can’t think of any

  1. Missed the cloud era completely (check)
  2. Exited Intel when the rest of the world doubled down (check)
  3. Doubled down on GTS Infrastructure investment when the rest of the world was exiting low margin infrastructure (check)
  4. Doubled down on financial engineering when investment in innovation was needed (check)
  5. Lost 40% of IBM’s market cap, and disposed of 25 years of IP investment (check)

Yep that’s Pioneering leadership at its finest I’m sure the shareholders are happy
