Thread regarding Chegg Inc. layoffs

Chegg Layoffs May 28

Chegg laid off just over 80 employees from its Chegg Skills team. This was slightly over half of the employees that were supporting the Chegg Skills efforts - specifically their B2C and B2B bootcamp offerings. They've been struggling on this side of the business for years but now that the other half of the business is also facing challenges it didn't make sense to keep bankrolling all of Chegg Skills. The decision to pivot the business makes sense and I think most employees saw it coming and were not shocked by the news. That said, Chegg could've done better for their impacted employees with the severance offered. They were told the decision was purely a business decision to shift their focus and not related at all to performance. If that's the case, you'd expect a payout that employees can use to support themselves for the amount of time they will likely be looking for a new role. Hopefully Chegg does better for the inevitable layoffs that will impact the other side of the business in the near future.
