Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

More than a Dell number

Not sure if I will be on the list this time around but many will be.
2 years ago in front of my team I basically had my a-s handed to me by a manager for the world to see.
That evening I had had enough and was under a lot of pressure in both my personal and professional life and decided it was time to end it.
Long story short I came out the other side and realized that I am more than a number on a page. I have people who care and while I may not set the world on fire and be a filthy rich I have a family who care and are worth more to me than a job at this shithole.
Its not worth the pressure trust me.
If you survive this cut or not its just a paycheque and life goes on.
Either way Michael Dell still makes a sickening amount of money and doesnt care about your situation.I am sure you have loved ones, friends, colleagues or people who do.
So no matter what take care of you and yours first and you are worth much more.
It doesnt matter what Dell think of you but what you think of you that matters.
This may sound like BS but worth a thought.
Best of luck to all involved.I hope it works out for us all which im sure it will.

Speaking to the choir my friend. 3 years ago, I left Dell (on my own) after 22 years because of how they made me feel, and I could see their global accounts strategy was cr-p. I went through a reorg or layoff just about every 18 months over those 22 years. It was absolutely ridiculous...there is constant organizational churn with little attention to employees or the customers they serve. They were throwing away money. Everybody would swallow hard when the beginning of August came around, because August is the RIF season at Dell.

Dell was no longer a place I wanted to work, and so I left. I wish I had done it earlier. My mental and physical well being is so much better.

Great decision OP. I know exactly how you feel.

@OP+1tSrZvnR happy for you that your journey from Dell had a positive outcome; wish the same for the thousands of colleagues now affected, including me. Onward!

Dell management is bottom of the barrel rot. No intelligence, skill, or talent. The maturity level is barely at the toddler level. Dont take it personal. You will notice most dell managers are either in the same position for life at dell or they try to work somewhere else and immediately fired within a quarter for behaving like a toddler and not having the slightest clue what a real job requires. Now that the no-skill bubble is imploding this is a great time to reset, develop a skill, so you aren't stuck working for a spreadsheet zombie.

With how frequent the layoffs have been I can't trust there won't be more in the future. I've survived so far but almost half my team is gone now versus two years ago. After today I made the decision I don't want to live in fear of being next on the chopping block or left without income for potential months of I am next, so I've started looking elsewhere for employment.

I know I can always get a job and make a decent salary. I’m not guaranteed to make the same amount, but I can make something. If you decide that a situation is not worth it because you are mistreated but you would take a pay cut somewhere else, don’t be ashamed. In fact, be proud. Your family will understand. It would probably be better for them as well for you to be happier and healthier. You’ll probably do better in the long run anyway.

There is undoubtedly life after Dell. But careers, income, finances matter, so hard to ignore when your employment is interrupted. But I love your perspective, and best of luck, regardless of what happens this go-round.

I’m sorry this was your experience. I’ve not felt this yet at Dell. I hope I don’t. But I did have a very negative experience (that spanned my last year) at another tech company. And so I can relate to the sense of renewed perspective.

I am so sorry you experienced this. I was treated very poorly by Dell, also, but happy to say I survived and am thriving! Bost of luck to you!
