Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Interview at Oracle?

Hello everyone,

In the past, I was laid off from a large US tech corporation, so I am very cautious. I was recently contacted by Oracle for an open position. Could you please share your honest opinions about the company culture and particularly if they also have frequent layoffs like Alphabet, Cisco, etc.? I want to avoid joining another company where internal politics rule everything.. and where leadership is only to increase profit per share with layoffs.

OP here. Quick update.. I have decided not to continue with the interview process. It smells strongly of internal corporate politics, and I have no interest in that at all again. I will rather consider a smaller company (with the same salary offering but apparently much less internal politics and more innovative and interesting solutions). Thank you all for your comments!

In the US, they are actively hiring … which can only mean they are filling spots prior to additional layoffs. New folks work cheaper! Fewer expectations.

The only middle managers who are left at Oracle are either incompetent twerps and/or company boot-lickers. Don't waste your time with Oracle. Find something else at a company that really values its employees.

most post here so true about the salary and rsu. Your job offer is exactly what you are going to get for the next 4 years. I've been with O for a few years now and waiting for my final rsu to vest then move on. I have no regrets since I've asked for big number up front. Remember big number my friend.

Oracle doesn’t have that many layoffs but the flip side to this is they also don’t have any raises either. Fight hard for your salary as it won’t change much, if at all.

Mid mgmt is most corrupt in industry.
There will be some serious charges made public soon.l against an individual, not Oracle. Stealing from employees, the company and also more serious stuff offshore. Don’t get involved at Oracle. Employee abuse is ridiculous.

They have this thing called a verbal offer... where they name the salary they will give you... from there they use a background check service called hireright who will cold call every employer on your resume. From verbal offer to start date took me over 4 months. It was a very stressful time.

it's both sad and hilarious to me that most of us have the same opinion of Oracle and their management....it's somewhat a red badge of courage that I now kinda carry with pride. And really, being someone who likes to be hands-on, if I ever meet an Oracle manager, I am simply just going to have to turn and walk away cause it seems like they are all just dirty horrible people. I mean....some of these posts on this forum have thousands of views and tons of comments....we're not wrong. I was beaten down by Oracle managers who were spinless rats who couldn't hold a candle to me. At the end of the day, they'll have to answer for their sins. Not meaning any harm, but they realize they're garbage and that's what I take with me.

If it’s OHAI then try to run away. It’s extremely bad culture here. Leadership expects you to work at least 20 hours a day. People leaving here without any jobs. It’s absolutely insane here. More than 50% people works more than 80 hours per week.

Was never more fun than when my old manager, who had left Oracle, tried to recruit me to his new company. At our meeting he spent the first 15 minutes telling me all about his old bonuses at Oracle, all of which he had not filtered down.

Honest opinion? Take the job for the money, but only stay until you have a better offer.

Oracle on Monday...layoff people doing jobs and making 25% more than they feel they should or they have to save money and restructure....

Oracle the following Monday....hire replacements making -25% less or more to fill all the people who were laid off.

Rinse and repeat. Oracle would rather starve than give people raises. You could legit invent some AI-based container system with a SIEM that builds and monitors itself and then just writes code and almost runs the entire show....and Oracle would be like "can we take a look at that...we'll get back to you.....ah....we dont see a use for this..." Next thing you know your laid off and they're selling your project to customers.

Management have zero spine. Most subhuman and realize they're useless.

Oh yeah, gotta love ‘dat Oracle! On the left hand, they layoff people by the truckload, and with the right hand they hire more people. And anyone who has even an ounce of grey matter knows it’s pure BS that new hires have such “unique skills” that Oracle has to look outside rather than find the right resource internally.

Bottom line is this - Oracle is a crock. Hire on at your own risk, and don’t expect to stay long. That’s all you need to know.

Oracle does not have frequent layoffs; however they have a reputation of low salaries and few growth opportunities. Unfortunately, they still follow the 90's mentality of not providing yearly cost of living adjustments to all employees. Your raises will depend entirely upon the business unit you are in and on your manager's good will. Even if you're a rock star in your unit, if your unit is one which is in a legacy area, you'll get sc--wed when it comes to raises. If you transfer to a different business unit to improve your odds, you will be denied a raise from your old unit because you left and also from your new unit because you've not been there long enough to earn 'equity'. Sometimes there are bonuses and RSU, but those are kept highly secret and wage discussion is highly discouraged even though that practice is illegal. Negotiate your best wage up front, it may be the last you see for awhile.
