Thread regarding Highmark Health layoffs

More Layoffs from Highmark Health today (09/26/2024)

Well, it finally happened—I got laid off. After enduring a mind-numbingly frustrating IT environment and living in fear of layoffs for years, which typically occur on Thursdays, my turn came. Honestly, I'm relieved to be let go from this stupid management company. Unfortunately, the severance pay is laughably pathetic; they're only giving two weeks' pay upfront. To add insult to injury, they're outsourcing our jobs to Thryve in India, tossing all our sensitive PHI data across the ocean. The developers there have unfettered access to production data, which is a disaster waiting to happen. Highmark is not just in big trouble; it’s carelessly risking data integrity and client trust. I wish all the best to my fellow colleagues who were also thrown under the bus.

Not sure where the "coming out of Washington" comment comes from. I worked at Highmark for many years, across both Democratic and Republican administrations and Highmark has been pretty bad the whole time.
The issue is management. They have an inflated opinion about themselves but don't know diddly on how to run a company. The problem is entirely internal and is getting worse.

Curious if we will hear of more layoffs on 10/24. HR doesn't seem to have much creativity and does it on the 2nd last Thursday of the month if it's going to happen.

Yea same here - I’m glad to be gone! They’ll wipe all of WNY employees off the grid and Thryve in India are getting the jobs! And Philippines is getting the QC and RN jobs! Cheap pay and no insurance required!! My severence was good; so I thought!! Till they took $9000.00 way over in taxes and whatever else the used of for!?! Company from day one lied and deceived! Lousy training and lots in demand! I got fabulous insurance and it’s not Highmark! Forced employees into high deductibles! They take 5.5 months to process or deny claims! This is how they avoid NYS fines! Don’t know how true it is but; they’re holding up on the pensions??

Highmark had the most layoffs between 2016 and 2019, go figure.

So sorry this happened. The severance package is only 2 weeks total? I thought it was 2 weeks for every year of service?

This is just a microcosm of how our economy and society is crumbling. There is no trust, no morals or ethics, no consideration for doing the right thing. Just a race to the bottom. It is clear to many within this company that Highmark does not have the right people steering the ship, yet, as always, it is the worker who must bear the brunt of poor decisions. I'm sorry this happened to you.
