Because the leaders thought “hey, it’s all just the same asset and liability management!”, not realizing Banks follow a whole different set of rules.
We can learn all we want to but it won't be worth a hill of beans. The only question is whether the Board is capable of learning anything from other companies' mistakes.
And the relevant question is not how many jobs were lost. The question is why is it such a terrible idea to have a bank and am insurer under the same umbrella?
