I joined a year ago and I can tell you that this place was a mess from day one. It was clear from the start that the management was unprofessional and clueless, with bad decision-making and no sense of responsibility. They don't seem to care about the company’s success, just themselves. For a year, it was total chaos every day, and it’s no surprise it ended in layoffs.

This place started to become a mess when Queen Stewie took over. Feds forced the board to sack him. Lyles incorrectly chose selfish Wayne over an Admiral because military company or something...we know how to serve?? You know, the koolaid they force the other sheep at the company to drink while they line their pockets. Look where we are now.
I became an FTE in 2013 after being a contractor for 3 yrs. Joe Robles was there and it was an amazing place to work. Layoffs were avoided if at all possible. Employees were deployed to other departments short term to avoid being laid off. We all cared about each other! Then Robles left and thus began the decline. It wasn’t necessary to have knowledge to be in management, it was who’s STUPID ideas did you nod your head in affirmation and cheerlead and who’s b_tt did you kiss? Those of us with actual knowledge were asked to remain quiet and not question the stupidity and our “leaders” showed nothing but contempt for us…SOOOOO we left and those of you remaining are on the hamster wheel because they just keep changing leadership and nothing else. They will continue to contract out the work to offshore because they don’t have to provide benefits. My benefits were amazing when I first came to work there, but by the time I left, they had stripped them down to nothing. There is absolutely no reason to go to work at USAA as opposed to a Wells Fargo or any other competitor because now USAA is absolutely no different, they offer nothing better and they’re actually much worse than many aspects especially the pay. Run and don’t look back. USAA needs to be like a bad boyfriend in the rearview mirror as you are leaving and never coming back and having no regrets.
Frankly it’s a really low quality management if you compare them in vision and ethics.
Look at Amala (ECIO), a total manupulative leader who has no clue of what good looks like, horrible management style, lies and divides people all the time. And that’s a standard of what USAA considers as a good EC member….LOL: she has Wayne dancing with all lies and manipulation…most of the regulatory issues are because of what she is responsible for, but she has found a way to blame everyone else around herself. How difficult it is to see facts?? A-s…
Last few years I’ve seen workplace management degrade to the point USAA was just a BIG money trough the pigs would gorge on. And my oh my are they protective of their trough.
Now, that’s nothing different from the other FIs I’ve worked at. But, that the point, the company has lost its specialness. I’ve seen management struggle with getting mission moment volunteers and you can tell when those presenting could care less.
So sad, so very very sad.
It was definately a weird place to work coming from a larger FI. The old timers were upset if you eccomended any sort of changes or updates to dated processes. People were always more concerned with the work you were doing instead of your own, and maangement seemed to have zero clue what was going on. I hate to say but there were people that were "seniors" with room temperature IQs. It's no wonder they have so many regulatory issues.
