Thread regarding USAA layoffs

USAA illegally denied my short term disability claim, looking for others to possibly join together on legal action

After a year of fighting for pay that Wayne made in less than 3 hours of his time, USAA (and Lincoln Financial) have officially denied my claim.

I will be seeking legal action against them and am interested in knowing if there is anyone else USAA has sc--wed over illegally.

This is an ongoing problem. It seems to vary condition by condition but I tell you what, when Lincoln Financial hired people who are grossly incompetent and then denied by a nurse (and that is countering recommendations by 4 Dr’s) something has gone terribly wrong. HR is too busy with the layoffs, and reorganizations to care.

I was a corporate trainer for the bank (mortgage) and my husband passed away suddenly. I’d known him since I was 12 yrs old and I was so distraught and grief stricken that I could barely function. I had no presence of mind to create and deliver training … I burst into tears constantly and would just s-b. My doctor instructed me to apply for short term disability. I was denied several times in spite of a lengthy doctor letter and was told that extreme grief due to the death of a loved one is normal and not a disability. I took my 37 yrs of mortgage experience and retired after using EVERY second of my time off first. Disability terms are based on what USAA will and won’t allow. They are SORRY!

Honestly, you are right. I wrote this right when I read that the final appeal had been denied and I was angry. It’s so blatantly corrupt and more than enough evidence was provided. It su-ks but it will take way more resources than the back pay is even worth. On a positive note I have a new job so they cannot sc--w me over anymore.

Good luck with that. The days of legal settling are done. They’ve gotten tough and will fight cases now until you run out of money to keep paying attorneys. Eventually, most law dogs decide the juice ain’t worth the squeeze.

How about you recognize that USAA has a financial obligation to pay benefits that are part of their plan.

It happened, and I had over five medical professionals sign off on it and agree short term leave was necessary. Lincoln Financial hired a doctor (who is getting sued right now for illegally denying claims) to say the leave was not necessary.

I’ve never seen a legitimate short-term disability claim denied for a USAA employee. Lincoln makes the determination based on the documentation provided.

No one told you that. There are a ton of people on disability benefits. If you got denied its because you’re not disabled. Good luck proving that’s illegal. Not gonna happen

Yes it was for a disability. I’ve basically been told that they deny short term disability because of the resources required to actually seek legal action is usually not worth it compared to what they owe. They hired doctors that never spoke with me specifically to discredit what my doctors said / recommended.

I suspect there are many others. Will need to figure out how to coordinate.

Is it for disability? File a complaint with Department of Insurance first
