Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Focal season

I’m hearing it’s “focal” season, how did everyone do vs when was your last “raise”?

To me it sounds like these would be considered at other companies: very delayed basic COLA adjustments.

Am I wrong in my assessment that many are basically at negative integers on the pay scale and Oracle is trying to get some employees closer back to 0 so they at least just maybe break even with inflation ?

Funny I got a 20% raise and 60k in stock and I’m a sales guy.

focal means out of every 10 people, one will get something. the rest will be sc--wed. the equity and raises are given at high levels (m7/m8) and then they raid all the RSUs and pay and leave barely anything for a lowly IC5 or M3. even m4s are getting burnt. there are m5 to m6 dry promos going on.
its bad. the top execs take almost everything leaving nothing but tables scraps for the rest. they only pay if someone is an obvious flight risk

Seems like a warning sign. Oracle has long history of taking advantage of down market. If you are old enough in Oracle, remember 2007-2010 period.

WARNING: If the raises are given in layoff means they can't let people go at any cost or they are unable to hire talent so had to keep existing people happy.

Yes. It's focal season! I got a raise and a bonus this year. Totally unexpected given all the layoffs we are seeing in the tech industry recently. Also I've seen so many emails announcing promotions in the past week across the team! Seems company not doing too bad but we'll get to see the details when earnings are announced next week.

I got 4.5% increase and 20k equity/stocks vesting across 4 yrs. The increase a bit lower than expected. The equity, totally unexpected!

Most did not get raises this years and lots of favoritism at Oracle for raises. Even if you got a raise it was less than 3%. Raises are far and few between for the majority of folks. Stock options and bonus pay is even worse.

It doesn't matter how good you are at your job; if your business unit is not showing high growth potential then you will at best get some breadcrumbs like 2%. AI is the current golden child this year. the last few years were cloud and OCI. Even if your BU is showing steady performance (good ROI but no growth) then it's ripe to be trimmed for cost efficiencies. there is no reward for adequate returns, only growth matters.

Embarrassing the raises.. They do not care one ounce about inflation.. It is what it is…

"If they like you, or you are competent"

You can be good at what you do, but if they think you will not walk, they will not give you that raise.

If they like you, or you are competent, they will give you a raise. They are not necessariy the same thing.
