We all know how it goes. Allstate has had layoffs every October of the year for the past several years. They are pretty predictable. Are you currently training an Indian? Is your manager acting weird? Were you given the lowest rating your performance review? If any is applicable to you, perhaps apply to some jobs to be prepared for a possible cut.

October
And the trees are stripped bare
Of all they wear
What do I care?
October
And kingdoms rise
And kingdoms fall
But you go on
And on
My separation date is Oct 1. My last review was soul-crushing. Won’t be easy to get another job at 60.
No doubt there will be as many people at the ani Christmas party as there are in the office most days - about 3. Can’t wait.
I hear they're doing a Christmas party in ANI this year. First one in 5 years. Interesting decision if there were Oct layoffs
Anybody know what a "General Manager" is? Seems like some people have been promoted to that level and I can't tell if it's just that they're a manager in general or if it actually is a new role.
Layoffs are all about the numbers. Doesn't matter how valuable you are, it matters how much you make and how old you are; they'll just hire a younger, less experienced worker, no problem. Keep your resume updated and apply for jobs, go on interviews whether you want the job or not to keep those skills and contacts fresh. And if you receive a mandatory meeting notice in mid-October with an HR person and/or a manager with whom you rarely interact or don't even know...brace yourself... Be prepared.
Stock is at $190 with all time high for market cap. CEO works for shareholders and would seem to be adding considerable value. Facts matter and increase in stock price is irrefutable.
They had a meeting of 'people managers' at HQ last week. And an offsite, or so I heard through the grapevine. They do it every year. No doubt part of that was to figure out how to reduce staff and spin it as a positive because their latest reorganization strategy isn't producing the results the middle management cheerleaders have been telling the out of touch big boys and girls it was already producing.
Last year at this time they were getting ready to can 8% of the workforce based on reaching numbers and not individual performance. They kept the people who were cheap and canned the ones who were making top of their range. Remember how they told us they'd 'flattened the organization' and how we were now poised to deliver incredible value and growth? Gotta figure out a new message for this year, I'm sure.
Rabbit season. Duck season. Football season. Layoff season.
I've seen some managers seem to have been demoted and probably face the next wave. A lot titles now going from "Manager" and "Lead" to more generic titles now. Hopefully that means they are finally draining the swamp of all those who thought they were better than everyone else because of a title but having barely a brain cell to engage in intellectual conversations.
October is the usual month. Mid-October. As with anything: forewarned is forearmed. If you think you'll be impacted, start looking NOW. Don't stress, just do your job and get the he-l out of there as soon as you can.
"Not all managers are bad...."..of course not ALL would be bad. But vast majority I'd go out on a limb and say are...
The mass generalisation that all managers in Allstate are 'weird' or 'brown-nosers' (different post) really do stop some of these posts from seeming credible and just people whining out of spite. Not all managers are bad....some people who get let go deserve it...this is just way it goes.
"..manager acting weird...". Are most of them capable of acting in any other manner?
