A British BS degree takes only 3 years and an MS only 4. But we keep putting them in charge of our technical functions.

No real purpose other than to check boxes and make it appear as if we have an in-house research and technology center. But all that is done by contractors and consortia now, so GTF is a useless relic of a bygone age.

Global Technical Functions - they are a 'center of excellence' that is supposed to cross-pollinate technical learnings and innovations across BUs. Most BUs see them as 'corporate' who is out of touch with what is happening on the ground in their BU.
