I did just this! I was a transition employee, and several months after the deal closed, maybe 1/2 way thru my transition period, I found another job outside of BC. I volunteered for an early exit and to my extreme amazement it was approved! BC paid me my full transition bonus (based on my original exit date) and my full severance, and two weeks later I started my new job.
Pure d-mb luck, but volunteering works (at least it did for me).
All levels are on the chopping block now. I volunteered a few months ago and told sorry. Still here 😔

It seems like there were many managers that were promoted to director before or soon after the acquisition so now it looks like there are too many directors
