Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

Where do we go if now?

Where do Humana employees go if not to another position at Humana. It’s so sad when you’ve been at a company 7 years applied for multiple positions and can’t get past the montage interview. You apply out and can’t get an interview with an MBA. I fill stuck. The raises su-k and in 6 years at Humana I haven’t even gotten a raise totaling 10k even with advance degrees and certs. Raises su-k, AIP su-ks no stock options oh and not to mention how are we an insurance company and employees insurance su-ks 🫠. 2020 and 2021 were the best years for AIP. What’s going on Humana we employees are miserable and also afraid of rifs.

Sadly unless you are connected to the old guard, you are out of luck.

The only thing that will save us is a mass layoff and a restructuring with new employees.

Too much politics and the rot is deep.

As a former leader at Humana. I recommed looking outside the company. I am now elsewhere and it has been such a breath of fresh air. I didnt realize how toxic it had become until I experienced different in a new role at a new company. Now people dont just say they want people to speak up but squash it when they do. This new company listens and acts on it. There is life outside big H. Withholding details about where I am currently to ensure I can maintain anonimity.

I had worked w/ the medicare side for 8 years. Applied ALL. THE TIME. for lead roles, other options, & UNTIL someone cornered the group medicare mgrs for holding onto team members...NO ONE got a promotion. This was when H was still viable.
Now??
RUN.
GET OUT.
FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO SHARE YOUR TALENT.
Humana is a toxic waste of time, energy & is the titanic sinking like a snail.

Humana is about cheap and quiet labor. If you are under 45 and will do anything you’re told to do mindlessly, you are good. It’s really sad but true. There are some very smart people with great ideas, but it won’t make up for the tenure that’s exiting.

Sometimes, or maybe most of the time, being dismissed is about the cost of a FTE... compensation and benefits. Fire one employee then hire 2 as a replacement. And each will cost half to two-thirds the cost of the one.

Was RIFed after 25 years and with exemplary performance metrics. Replaced with someone unlicensed upon employment. Start looking elsewhere. Do not delay. You are worth it.

It’s a tough market. But also if you’re struggling internally and externally you could possibly have issues with your resume / experience for the positions you’re looking for. I would first try to look inward to see if there is something better you can do in the way you are displaying yourself / your experience.

I'm glad I was laid off earlier this year because I didn't realize that I was underpaid. I'm making 40% more money now than when I was with Humana.

Moving around and getting recognized at Humana can be a challenge and is frustrating. As the last poster stated it’s really not what you know but who you know and even then, good front liners may be passed over because leaders want you where you are at and don’t want to take a chance. I know many people that have gotten poor or no raises over the past 7-8 years, many with advanced degrees. I also know tenured exceptional people that have also been given little in raises because they’re at the top of the elusive pay scale. MBAs are really a dime a dozen in today’s workforce and mean little at a fortune 100 company. Hold your head up high, keep doing your best work every single day and determine in how much longer you want to play the game. Whatever you do, don’t compromise or beat yourself up. Sone of us just aren’t good game players!

First of all you have to realize it's not "what you know" but "who you know" at Humana in order to move up. If you look you will notice the same people are able to advance rapidly. My suggestion is to find a mentor in the area you would like to work and go from there. A degree is worthless at Humana as there are many in leadership that only have high school educations. Learn to get through the day by learning all that you can. It's ok and natural to feel frustrated as most of us are here, but try to find ways to cope that are not making you so angry.

First, you need to realize that Humana doesn't owe you anything. An MBA is worthless unless you have the business acumen to back it up. You will land a very amazing career if you apply yourself and not expect to just land a job because you have an MBA or have been with Humana for 7 years. I don't know you personally, but your post is out of touch, and maybe the reason you can't find another job is what is happening right now. I recommend taking some courses in emotional intelligence and empathy. This is not a dig, and I hope you understand.
