All state universities have been planning for ongoing budget cuts since January. WCU in March announced cuts of 30+ current jobs and the elimination of another 40+ vacant positions. The uni also closed 3 centers focused on special research and instruction (ouch!). UNCA is cutting eight current staff jobs and eliminating 35 additional positions by transferring employees and leaving vacant spots unfilled. The university also closed two scientific research centers.
Many adjunct faculty positions have been cut, with full-time professors reassigned to focus on core classes.
