UTI Integrated Logistics Inc. will lay off its 53 employees who work on a contract basis at an Invista plant in Salisbury. UTI, a warehousing and logistics company based in Columbia, S.C., has lost its contract with Invista, according to a UTI filing with the N.C. Department of Commerce. The layoffs are permanent, the filing states. The plant is at 7401 Statesville Blvd. Privately held Invista is one of the world's largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers, primarily for nylon, spandex and polyester applications. The company is based in Wichita, Kan. A UTI spokesman was unavailable to comment on whether the affected employees would receive severance packages.
