Oct 2008: Ball Corp. has announced plans to close two factories, one in Kansas City, Mo., the other in Guayama, Puerto Rico. The Kansas City plant, which produces 1.1 billion, 12-ounce cans per year, will lay off 180 workers. The Puerto Rico plant, which produces 700 million, 12-ounce cans, will lay off 70 workers. Ball says it will save $30 million in 2009 from closing the facilities.
