Thread regarding AnnTaylor Stores Corp. layoffs

layoffs tonight at Ann Taylor

My daughter has worked for Ann Taylor for a bit over a year. She rose to be a store manager. She went to college, but this is just a stepping stone but she wishes it would have been a stepping stone further up the Ann Taylor ladder. Tonight she was laid off with an option to be rehired in two weeks as a sales clerk, but not full time. Really?

She so loved the company, but this has now put a sour taste in her mouth. She could have had such a future with Ann Taylor, they just do not realize how dedicated she is.

Their loss.

I gave my all to a Loft Outlet store. I sweated my butt off everyday to meet impractical and unnecessary deadlines as a sales lead just to be "terminated." I'm sad because I never liked the duties of the job but I made the best of it; I befriended and enjoyed my coworkers, I was enthusiastic and helpful towards customers, and I worked diligently for the sake of the store and chiefly, to save money for my college tuition. It is sad that major corporations, even ones that claim to "put women first," still fail to pay living wages to full-time employees and then opt to insincerely lay-off hundreds of individuals rather than caught costs elsewhere (cough-cough payroll for corporate employees!). It's sad to live in a country where we as middle class Americans have such limited opportunities that we must forego family dinners and quality time in order to work jobs that don't pay nearly enough and demand far too much. I blame corporate greed for these lay-offs as well as misguided policies that favor the billionaires and exhaust the hard-working, honest middle-class. I believe we all should be concerned with the unemployment rate in this country, the lack of job growth, and the BIG MONEY running politics. I hope anyone reading this thread recognizes how unjust the suffering of the middle-class is and how unjust the ever-growing wealth/income gap in America is. It is sad. And egregious I was a manager for 6 1/2 years. I resigned without another job lined up. I was broken and ill as a result of the culture of AT. Work till its done..That was the mantra. And, because I had pride of work, I did. It was not uncommon to work 80 hours a 2 wk pay period, 16 days straight and still be expected to do more. I was on a conference call with the "then" director of sales and heard him say " we need to ask more and get more from our store managers" I had nothing left to give. I had given it my all.

A few weeks after I resigned i prepared dinner for my sons. "mom, this is the first dinner you've prepared in 3 years" I broke down in tears.

Ann broke me. Im sorry for all the fine dedicated associates cut loose so abruptly. Its a blessing in disguise. Best of luck to each of you!

Ann Taylor's mantra "We get women" needs the following amendment "We get women to give clients an extraordinary in-store experience, then we put them at the curb like so much trash!" Almost 6 years with them. Shameful. Unconscionable. It's ALWAYS about the bottom line. Bottom line is I hope they go out of business.

I too was let go. I was told it was happening to all stores across the entire company. That has to be 100's of employees. Very very sad.

Yes, all the co-managers across all divisions were let go yesterday with no notice and 2weeks pay with no medical. They do have the option to re-apply in 2 weeks as a part time sales associate no benefits. Who in their right mind would do that? They are ruthless, ungrateful and just plain do not care about their associates. They are so hypocritical .. Their mission statement includes" we get women.." " we put women first" lol.. What a joke. They could care less. All they care about is the almighty dollar and cashing in their stock options.

I'm so sorry to hear of this for team members. Be thankful you are out of there and find a job where you are valued.

My days of shopping there are over. I will take my money elsewhere.

same thing just happened to my sister. She was full time sales lead and she and another co-worker let go. She can reapply for a part- time position in two weeks, same no benefits! I suggested to her to go and apply at another store that appreciate their workers, however she on the other hand loved her co-workers and the store. For me I will no longer be a customer - they are rats in my opinion!

Last year was an HR massacre in the corporate office in New York - 100+ folks were let go, almost all of them were stunned

This just happened at our Ann Taylor outlet here. I work for a loft outlet because our mall has both stores. They got rid of all the newer hired people and only kept a store manager, 1 Co manager and a part time supervisor. I had no idea the changes with the sale of our company were happening so soon. I find out more what's going on tomorrow at our store. I found all this out from one of their managers that got let go. I know too much. Time for me to get out before I am next. Companies always tend to do this when they take over another company

Same here, we were told the store is not doing well, we are always busy though, good sales numbers, etc. It's time to get out of the retail business. I will not accept the part time rehiring option.

same thing just happened to my wife. She was a fulltime sales lead but was told stores not making their sales numbers had to let go fulltime sales people. She can reapply for a parttime position...with no benefits..... She loved working there but this layoff came as a real surprise to her.
