The former DirecTV engineering prior to 2005 was great. They were the one pioneering the whole sat delivery idea. The new DTV management after 2005 got rid of them and hired a bunch of incompetent "engineers" (they were technicians, actually. Look at their resume !). They are so incompetent that they could not do anything and hired contractors to do their job, so that they could blame them when things go wrong. I said several years ago: there is no way Directv could survive by itself with these clowns ! OTOH, if AT&T could not figure out a way to merge sat del platform to its U-verse, then Ergen will kill you all in the next 5 years.
Time is the essence ! Not sure if AT&T/DirecTV would have the 5- years luxury to merge their platforms. Charlie Ergen will make moves during that time and even a successful integration might not even be enough to compete against his. He has strategic visions, but his problem is in the execution of them.
Seems like AT&T / DirectV hired Sony Ericsson to help to integrate, but unfortunately, I doubt that it has the expertise. Once Charlie successfully acquires either TMobile or Sirius, it would be game over for AT&T/Directv !
