Freescale competes mainly in the automotive market, and in this market they are being dominated more and more by Japanese chip make Renesas. Too much of a "good old boys" network and not enough people willing and able to create new value. They mostly just make ARM cores now, just like everyone else. What happened to ColdFire? What happened to StarCore? Now it's just same old, same old. Good luck getting any value out of this one NXP.

renesas japan layoffs
The sinking has already begun. I've been here for 25 years. Joined the company when it was Motorola back in 1990 and was making money. Since then it has been like watching a boat fill up with water from a slow leak. Motorola, Freescale and now NXP. Fortunately for me I'm ready to retire so I'll take my 50 weeks of severance and live happily ever after. For everybody else...not so much.
Renesas is so bad, I am not even sure how they manage to stay in business. I've spent 4 years there and it's so dysfunctional and corrupt from the inside, they do not value people and will work you to death
Freescale has gotten where they are on the
backs of temporary workers who are paid a third of what freescalers make. No benefits and forced to remain temps for up to 5 years before being hired or just giving up and moving on. Good ole boy network is in control. Women, minorities and elderly you have very little opportunity here. Move on. Hope they all sink together.
ColdFire was a good idea though
