Thread regarding Bose layoffs

Layoffs, Not So Voluntary Retirement Deals, and Other Nonsense

Bose went from products made in the US, to products made in Asia. Layoffs happen, but Bose likes secret layoffs and layoffs disguised as voluntary retirement, where those who don't "volunteer" are told "you need to take the deal". Those who have the right alliances remain, despite working part time while being paid for full time, taking vacation when major deadlines approach, and sleeping with coworkers -- sometimes in the building. These kind of people remain while star performers are dismissed, demoted, or harassed until they quit.

Spot on. I experienced/witnessed this first hand myself. Truth is, management was affected by the "good old boys" systems as much as individual contributors. Demoted/restructured into a role I wasn't fit to do & harassed until I quit. Now they're hiring & underpaying college kids to replace the departed... software developers have been replaced with big platforms & software "operators". My dept. was cut in half in 2015 despite merging with another dept., ~60 down to 30, only about half of which got out before they didn't have a choice. It's not the Bose I joined 5-years ago. Glad to have escaped before the bloodbath began. I can't imagine why anyone left behind would still want to be there. RIP Dr. Bose.

This is so true, we are going south so fast it's not even funny. The culture is very complacement, we'll milk revenue from the current product line but innovation will suffer and we'll go belly up sooner or later (I think sooner)> Bose used to be a great company where you were able to thrive and grow, not it's just a fiefdom with clearly drawn lines and boundaries that cannot be crossed
