This is in reply to anonymous Fallon's post of "What will happen to the plant in Fallon? Why not force workers who are over the retirement years to retire, as most here in Fallon just sit around do nothing. Reduce the salary of them Group and regular supervisors too they just there wasting space"....When you get to be of retirement age please remember your post! There are many of us who have obligations that MUST be met and cannot afford to retire and live on the pittance that is called social security and the greatly reduce pension/401k's that we may have. You need to look at your own job, look at Fallon, that handwriting is on the wall Fallon plant will be shut down it is just a matter of when! Get out while the getting is good and find yourself another job where your negativity towards older workers (who by the way, have better work standards and job stability) may be tolerated. With the attitude you maintain, you will probably be one of the first to be laid off without any package to fall back on. Seems like anyone under 50 has an attitude that the are "entitled" to everything!

WHAT ABOUT SOLON..?.
They just announced volunteer severance packages in Huntsville Alabama as well. We actually have a very good management staff as they treat employees with respect. We can't understand why we are cutting back and have been making more powder over the last year. We are worried that they are trying to lower headcount for a possible sale off...
Kennametal orwell also just offerrd a severance package, things arent looking good for us here. They hire supervisors that can literally barely even read! They allow employees to work overtime even when there is no work on the shop floor, what kind of plan is that? Pay time and a half for people to stand around? Good way to go out of business. The moral is low here and at least half of the employees here are worthless cry baby's that wouldn't even cut it at a McDonalds.
This company cannot stay in business with the quality of people managing. Trying to run a U.S. company with Germans who couldn't sell poporn on the corner. The last international manager ran it aground and he set up his s---lings to take over when he left Dodge. Use to be a good U.S. company. Gone............
Well looks like Kennametal in Fallon Nevada will be shut down shortly! Meetings today to go over "voluntary" severance packages. Yeah right, if they don't get enough volunteers they will volunteer YOU the common working person for layoff, and most likely will start with their highest paid hourly employees! They let all temp's go a couple of months ago, last month made everyone take 1 week of lay off, this month (July) making everyone take 2 weeks lay off. Way to go Mr. CEO! Trying cutting out all the crap in India and other countries and bring everything back to America! Buy American, puts Americans to work. Also Mr. CEO, try cutting your salary in half instead of taking food out of our mouths and shelter away from us hard working people, who in case you don't realize it Mr. CEO, are only hourly and we help pay your salary! This is the only major employment within our county besides the navy base here, and you will send our already high unemployment rates even higher...Thanks a lot! Maybe once you've chopped everyone down you will be in the unemployment lines with us. Sorry I've put 15 years of my life with this company, just to be treated as a dollar sign figure on your bottom line.
Management within Kennametal as a whole lacks people skills. Asheboro plant has suffered since the arrival of their new honcho . He disrespects employees like no manager I have ever seen in my 50 years of working life . Cusses them , belittles them and humiliates them in front of co-workers. When he was announced a a company meeting a few years ago the CEO said this is your new plant manager . He scowled and nodded his head , did not say a word and the meeting was over. HR is spread so thin that he serves very little purpose if any at all. Not his fault but spread way to thin, he came from Johnson City. The Beave also from Johnson has no one's respect at all , what a clown he is .
As per the other commenter there were eight people in IT infrastructure laid off yesterday. The company froze all hiring for NA and Europe last May or thereabouts and posted over 20 jobs in Bangalore. It's rather obvious that the upper management thinks moving to the cloud and using Bangalore as the support team will work well. It will be interesting to see how this experiment works out. The history of results at the Kennametal with the current Indian workers has been widely varied ranging from reasonably good to terrible. More than a few large US companies have tried this and then brought the IT support back to the US. The largest problem for the company and recovery is that the current CEO is a rookie at the job and not-with-standing the "happy talk" is extremely out of touch with the employees. Not surprising as this has been a long standing complaint about Kennametal management.
Source of information: I worked there for a while some time back and keep in touch with friends there.
Kennametal just laid off most of it's IT infrastructure staff. Mostly long term employees. They have also let technical staff in the RD and development staff. Average age is 55 and above
The plant manager and her managers at the Johnson City plant is the reason for the trouble there. She is over her head and can't control her behavior. The people she has put in charge under her also can't handle the workload. They are not experienced enough and do not know how to interact with employees. HR at Latrobe should be notified of how she screams and curses the good, hardworking employees there. But they have another new HR person in JC (3rd one in less than a year) and he is afraid of her too, so he isn't helping the employees. It is so sad, the JC plant was one of the best plants for Kennametal just a little over a year ago, but since she came she has ruined us.
The Johnson City plant just lost all temps and laid off 8 full time. So my guess is Latrobe will likely see a few. The warehouses are full and work is low. Good luck and best wishes!
