Thread regarding Bose layoffs

Gave 25 years of my life to this company

I had 5 more years to go. Restructure is what they call it. Basically they found a way to clean house of people close to retirement to reduce paying high salaries and benefits. Offered a buyout of 3 years retirement. I took it because I feared my job would go away. This means you "QUIT" your job. No unemployment, can't find job because there is definite age discrimination out there people. I got the boot the end of June 2015 and still have not found a job. Finally got a temp job. I have had to use one third of the supposed retirement just to pay my bills. Really sucks when you have planned your retirement based on having the job until your 65 and have this done to you. Management made some bad decisions, but did they loose their jobs??? No of course not. If Dr. Bose were alive today, everything would be different. RIP

There is life after Bose, I've been at my new job for less than a year and have moved into a supervisory position and make more than I did at Bose. They had another round of layoffs around April that was pretty brutal and a few friends I kept in touch with quit because they were tired of the layoffs and with the job market being good they found better jobs without having to look too hard. I heard they pulled Maresca out of retirement because they are floundering. Again, it's a shame what happened to Dr. Bose's company, it was a great family company in the 90's.

I'm one of the ones who lost his job when they closed the Blythewood plant. I have no hard feelings, Bose was good while it lasted the 19 years I worked at the plant but it's a shame what happened to them. Ironically they would probably be weathering this tariff war pretty well had they kept the plant.

Ran across this thread by accident. I worked at Bose for 22 years and had the same thing happen. I just wanted three more years when I would have been 60 when I was told my position was being eliminated due to restructuring. Fortunately the severance was decent and I did find a comparable job pretty quickly but the entire experience was horrible. Bose was a very good place to work when Dr Bose was alive (I spoke to him often) but they know no longer respect loyalty but are instead trying to attract young hip workers. It is a matter of time before they are bought by another company.

Broaden your skills and find something else to do. The same thing happened to me in a different industry and I hit the age deal as well, so I moved into a different field and got my life together. Should have done this 15 years ago, but alas...

We do get complacent and forget that we are letting others control our destiny in these careers.
