Thread regarding Autodesk Inc. layoffs

I was part of the 'laid off group'...

15+ years of loyal service in product development groups. Honest severance package, but no real effort to keep you around, besides the "we encourage you to apply on open positions".

The irony is that about a week ago, I was informed by another instance in the company that I would receive a gift as a way to encourage me in my efforts of contributing to innovation... The right hand don't know what the left hand does.

Autodesk has been losing good talent for years now. All the key architects who built the current money making products have left for greener pastures. Carl is more interested in buying software, managing it as IP than developing anything new. They could of built OnShape (Fusion is far from that) but they can't get their act together. They like talking more than doing.

Yes. I was first laid off and then promoted. My promotion is going to last only about 30 days, though...

I'm also part of the laid off group, after 26 years of service as a software developer there.

I agree that things seem a bit messed up. I hope things work out for Autodesk, given all my coworkers and friends that are still left there... some very brilliant minds, at least the software developers.

But with decisions like this, one has to wonder what type of future they're heading for.

Myself, I just want to say thank you, to my friends, my coworkers and a company that was like a second home to me. Good luck for your future. Me, I remain optimistic that my best is yet to come and now I feel free to find again that passion that started 40 years ago for me when I started coding on an Interact Model 1 computer because the Apple II was too expensive for my parents to afford. When one door closes, a new brighter door opens and now it's finally my turn to walk through it.

But are you still going to receive the gift?
