Thread regarding American Express Co. layoffs

Amex really needs to reassess what's core and get rid of all the waste.

My entire group should be let go. It's a group that does nothing to impact the bottom line, although we always find a way to make ourselves look like we contribute significantly There are probably hundreds of other groups like that -- folks at Amex are great at showing impact when, in fact, if you took them away, there would be no impact. It's because we only have year to year goals…so you are limited to about 8 months (between goals being aligned in late Q1 and then October assessments) to execute and measure impact. There are numerous opportunities to really make a difference, but because so many senior leaders you'd have to align -- they are not quick one year hits -- those opportunities never materialize. I worked on three different new products or ideas that over promised and under delivered and were eventually terminated. Incredible waste of people and millions in investments. Amex really needs to reassess what's core and get rid of all the waste.

It is insulting to train the Indians that are taken our jobs over. I personally think some of those VP/ SVP need to be let go. Amex is still a mans world and always will be.

I am also observing thge same since last 3-4 years where numerous project is being started and hefty amount spent but at the end no value is created or hypothetically created (window-dressing) to make senior Managemnt happy. Now, Amex need to really think and asses the core processes only and get rid of the process which do not add value to the core Product and services of the company. But the VPs and SVPs of those department are unwilling to show low importance of their department and instead they are making several Decks/metrics to showcase their work to senior manager as their dept. are adding core value to the Balance-sheet, or Bottom line. even I have suffered the same when I suggested to abandoned one project which was in initial stage as I was able to foresee the zero value at the end of project and unnecessary exp. on P/L of the company in 2013 but instead of accepting my proposal I was transferred in another dept. though in 2015 the same project is completed but no value is delivered to the company.

American Express went downhill fast when their motto was fire American workers and force them to train their HB1 replacements or Indian outsourced workers in order to get severance. Year after year until their quality was below Capital One. No matter how many JDPOWER awards they buy. You put lipstick on a turd it still a turd.
