It wouldn't be such a bitter pill to swallow if management treated the rest of us with some respect. No one higher than a director is going to be worried about car payments and rent. Stevens will walk away with millions after running the company into the ground. Even if stock prices and oil play a big part he is ultimately responsible.

Thanks, You're correct. But if they don't call it a layoff - as happened in January you're lucky if you get a month. Everyone should do their own research and verify.
You need to re read the WARN act... What you are saying is true to a point. But the rule states that a company must give at least 60 days’ written notice of the mass layoff. In the alternative, they may give 60 days’ pay in lieu of notice. In other words severance.
