That's the rumor, L48. It make sense as this cut was smaller than most folks predicted. Overall, it's a massive carnage anyway, but if you see what others are doing (e.g., Chevron, COP, etc.) I am surprised that we managed not to have cuts of today's proportions long, long time ago. Let's see what happens, but I am hearing from multiple sides that we are just starting. Add to this forecasts of prices sticking around twenty bucks, you have a very bad mix of things in play.

Why is BP still advertising positions externally when they are having layoffs?
I think the OP is referring to the rumor that additional 2000 people will be eliminated (on top of 4000 announced today) - BP is not the only company downsizing right now, just look at the posts here under "LATEST POSTS" above, almost all entries are for #oilandgas companies
